In many cases, the same type of visa is issued to all the dependents included in the PR application. This means that the spouse can enjoy the same rights, which apply to the main applicant. If the main applicant can work, so does his dependent. The applicant just needs to check before he/she starts the process.
The processing times for dependent visa fluctuates based on the nation of the applicant and individual circumstances like whether the dependent can be supported by the sponsor, if the sponsor is physically living in that country, etc. The whole process can take around a few weeks to a couple of months.
